Honoring Children

The Bible speaks to us on several occasions about the role of parents and children and the relationship God wants for our families. In today's message, we focused upon the responsibility of children to honor their father and mother, noting that when they do, their lives will go well for them and they will live long lives on earth. The truth is, in the face of all the responsibilities we have as parents (providing for basic needs, warmth, love, security, etc.) our greatest duty is to share God's love with them, teaching them to love God and Jesus Christ.
As someone has said, as a society, we are 'one generation away' from becoming a 'post-Christian' nation and world. If we fail to teach our children to love God, our legacy will die with us. In addition, our children will not experience the promise of a good, long life. We have witnessed the destructive power of families that 'fail' in this endeavor, resulting in the broken, empty lives of our children and youth. We see it in our own families at times, as well as in the lives of those around us.
Mom, take the time to seek out God's wisdom and teach it to your children. God will bless them and you for doing so and all of us will be recipients of your faithfulness and dedication.
