In John 14, Jesus tells us that if we love Him, we will keep His commandments. And His primary commandment is to love. According to Jesus, love is more than a feeling, it is an expression of our devotion. As someone once said to me, love is not a noun, it's a verb.
That is so true. We all seek to "be loved" rather to be "in love". We would rather have those who are important to us show us their love for us, rather than simply telling us they love us, although both are appreciated. :-)
Like the illustration of the man who had been married to his wife for years. His wife said to him, "You never tell me you love me anymore." And the husband responded, "I told you on our wedding day that I loved you and if that ever changes, I'll let you know."
Have we "told" Jesus that we love Him in the past, but failed to show our love for Him in our daily lives? Jesus calls us to show our love for Him through obedience to His commands, specifically to love others as He has loved us. That requires action, not just feelings, from each of us. And Jesus tells us that we don't have to do it alone, either. He has giving us His Holy Spirit, to guide and direct us in showing Him our love by loving others.
Are you living the dream?
