The Title of this Blog

Perhaps you are wondering about the title of this blog. Or, perhaps not. Well you are here now, so regardless, I will reveal its origin.

My paternal grandfather was a United Methodist pastor in Mississippi. Although he went to be with the Lord before I was born, through stories and some of his writings, I feel that I knew him. My uncle Harmon (named after my grandfather) informed me that when he (Harmon Sr.) would write in the church newsletter, he would entitle his thoughts "Smithereens", which literally means "little bits". It was his hope that his "little bits" of information would be helpful to those who read them.

In the same way, I hope that my thoughts on this blog will enrich the lives of those who visit here. Perhaps you will get a sense of who I am and what I believe. Maybe you will find comfort in the knowledge that I am, like you, an ordinary person who is building a life, raising my children, loving my spouse, striving to know God more every day, and trying to become more like Jesus in every way. I am not perfect; far from it. But I live in His grace, with His encouragement and promises as my strength.

Like my grandfather before me, I hope that the 'smithereens' I leave on this blog will enrich your life and that you will come to know Him better, too.
