Camping

We are going camping together as a family this weekend. And I know what you are thinking...Tent camping? Outside? On Mother's Day weekend? What are you thinking? What about TV, Xbox, Ipad?!?! (No, wait, maybe that last sentence was in my head and not yours!)

Well, you need to understand that tent camping is a tradition that we started when the boys were younger as a way to "get away from the regular routine of life" and to spend some time together as a family. The boys love to run, jump, and hike in the woods, eat hot dogs from the fire, and listen to silly or "scary" stories in the tent as we fall asleep.

Some would rather go to a condo at the beach (which we have done) or an amusement park (which we have also done), but we have found that sitting around a campfire, making smores, surrounded by the beauty of God's creation is one of the best ways for us to relax and to connect as a family.

I know of other families that have continued this tradition, having an annual camping trip every year, including their grown children and their kids. Don't know if our tradition will continue that far, but I am certainly not opposed to it! I am looking forward to another chance to connect with my family and to make memories that will last a lifetime.

What about you? What are you doing to "make memories" with your kids/family? When are you taking intentional time to connect with those you love apart from the routine of life?

Want to go camping? There's still room!
